I found your site from the monkey's.

It's awful how you were mistreated. But so good that you started this blog.

I think that you victims - especially the rape victims, but also those who were 'simply' harassed - should find a way to get together. Support groups at first; 'how can we prevent this type of stuff' groups later on.

Absent a stronger women's voice - this monstrous abuse is going to continue. As sm noted, it's almost becoming a tradition.

Given a stronger women's voice - your society as a whole will change, for the better. At first, the loonies will fight hard against it. But, ultimately, they'll fade into insignificance. And we'll all be better off. Particularly, but not only, you. Particularly, but not only, egypt.

Good luck to you. I hope you're really succesful with this blog.

BTW: Don't forget to find opportunities to publicize those brave taxi drivers and shopkeepers.

Girl4Cairo, I am so sorry for what happened to you and the other women, and I applaud you for having the courage to blog about that injustice. I have two friends who lived for a time in Cairo and told me about how they were harrassed. One was harrassed by several men, including a cab driver. The other was walking down the street and was suddening "goosed" from behind by a boy of about 10 or 12! I had never before heard of a boy who attacked an adult woman this way.
Cairo is the only city I've heard of where women are so constantly propositioned by men. Good luck with your blogging and your recovery.

Thank you, Seraphic. I agree with you that things like that wouldn't happen anywhere unless something wrong went with people's mind. I goosed the same way buy bunch of boys at the same time who were about the same age among adult idiots and this happened at the moments I had someone between my hands whom I was beating the shit out of him. I expected them all to interfere and beat him up for me, but the mother fuckers were grabbed my butt using the chance I am busy defending myself on the other side and this was the moment I had to use my spray. It was a nightmare, really.

Girl4Cairo,

what happened to you is terrible. I was once sexually harrassed and remember the mixture of feelings only too well :-((

We finally brought him to court, but he tricked us out. Anyway, the disgust in the faces of everybody except his creative lawyer was enough satisfaction.

I read you're collecting gas sprays. Please don't!!!

I was helped by a policeman who had thirty years of experience. As I was living alone and my father was in hospital dying, I followed every step the policeman told me in order to catch the guy. When things were getting rough, police was at my place within two minutes after my call.

I'm aware of police's role in your case and it turns my stomach. But please don't do anything on your own. Let yourself be helped by friends, brothers, father, SM.

My consultant from the police out of his experience told me that gas sprays are an additional risk and don't help anything. He said, when hormons are high, they won't be held back by spray or any electric shock. What happened to you the other night just proofs what he's saying. They cut your hand :-(((

The only reliable weapon of self-defense is a dog. I'm aware that Muslims aren't fond of them but I just wondered what Cairo would look like if the women were accompanied by dogs. In Paris you find lots of them.

Take good care.

Of course, they will be held back by the spray, because they will be on the ground not being able to see. And it did held back some assholes (unfortunately, all I had was one 50ml bottle of the spray). The spray may in some situation have a worse effect, but in a situation where I already been attacked, should I just surrender and let them continue grabbing me? I don't think anyone would agree on that.
